Follow-up clinics

Everyone who comes to the havens is offered a follow-up appointment, which usually takes place 7 to 10 days after the assault.

 

Your follow-up appointment might involve:

  • Tests for sexually transmitted infections (STIs)
  • Results of any STI tests, and information about the results
  • Prescription for medicines to treat infections
  • Pregnancy testing
  • Emergency contraceptive advice and prescription
  • Support, advice, information and an opportunity to discuss your emotional needs with a counsellor, health adviser or clinical psychologist.

You may need more than one follow-up appointment. It is usual to have additional follow-up appointments three months after the assault.
