Emotional needs

Image of handsGetting the emotional support that you need is very important after an assault.
Not everyone has the support of family, friends or a partner. Even those who do, sometimes want to talk to someone else about how they are feeling.

If you want to talk to someone else, you can ask to speak to the counsellor / health adviser or Clinical Psychologist at your follow-up appointment.

Each person who has been raped or sexually assaulted will react in their own way. The counsellor / health adviser will try to help you understand how you are feeling. If you are experiencing more persistent difficulties and think that on-going psychological therapy would be helpful, you can discuss this with them. Or you can simply arrange to see them when you come for your follow-up medical appointments.
