| Radio Campaign Highlights Haven Service |
|
A two week radio campaign on Kiss FM and Magic FM started on 20th November 2006 to raise awareness of improved
services to victims of rape and other sexual violence. The Metropolitan Police have funded the advertising
campaign to combat the impression that services in this area are still poor. Dedicated police officers and
the Havens now provide a comprehensive victim focused service.
This is the transcript of the advert.
"The following ad is read by a real victim, whose voice is distorted.
FV1: You might be wondering why my voice is disguised. It's because I've been raped. I haven't been able to
tell all my family and friends. It was soul-destroying. But the police supported me and really understood what
I was going through. They told me about the havens service, where I received medical care and support. No-one
judged me. They treated me with kindness and respect. I wanted you to know, if you've been raped, there's somewhere
to turn.
FV2: For your nearest haven, text 'havens' to 64118.
The Met Police. Working towards a safer London."
The campaign is aimed at young women as figures show that this group is most at risk of rape in London. Adverts
were also placed in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender press to raise awareness of Police and Haven
services in this community.
This campaign marks a new direction for the Havens in bringing the message about this important service to the
wider public. Anyone can contact the Havens to enquire about receiving services. Currently 90% of people attending
the Haven do so via the police. The Havens also offers its services to those who may not be ready to contact the police.
It is now intended to make this service more widely known about, to reach more of the victims of sexual violence.
